As reported by The Daily Mirror, Virgil van Dijk has let Southampton know that if he moves this summer he only wants to move to Liverpool.

What's the story?

The Liverpool and Van Dijk saga has rumbled on all summer with the Reds warned off trying to sign him after the Saints accused them of tapping up their star defender.

However, The Mirror say that Jurgen Klopp remains a big fance of the Dutchman and is eager to add him to the Liverpool first team next term.

A big boost for the German then that the defender, who is rated at £50m is insisting that Liverpool is where he sees his footballing future. The Mirror say he's desperate for a move to Anfield to play UEFA Champions League football, which he got a taste of at Celtic before moving to England.

The answer

Although Virgil van Dijk was injured in the second half of the season, his form was good enough in the first half to become the hottest defensive property in English football. His assured, aggressive and committed performances for Southampton drew plaudits from pundits and fans. There was arguably no-one better than him in the early parts of Saints' campaign.

It's obvious why Liverpool reportedly want him. He would go a long way to aiding what was an under-fire defence for most of last season, with one of the poorest defensive records in the top half of the English Premier League table.

If the Reds can do the deal it's frankly a no-brainer.
