According to reports in the Daily Star, West Ham are set to make another audacious bid for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi this summer.
The Hammers were believed to have made bids for Belgian international Batshuayi last summer before the 23-year-old chose Stamford Bridge as his preferred destination.
However, reports have suggested that Batshuayi is unhappy with his lack of playing time at Chelsea and would be willing to seek first team football elsewhere in England.
West Ham are believed to want the striker on a season long loan. However, this would be dependent on whether Chelsea would be willing to send one of their players to one of their city rivals without a transfer fee as a reward.
There is no question that it has been a difficult start to life in English football for Michy Batshuayi. With a distinct lack of starts at Chelsea, the Belgian has found it hard to establish himself and put a goalscoring run together. In fact the 23-year-old has managed just one league goal in 17 appearances.
However, there is no doubting Batshuayi’s outstanding ability; his final season with Marseille proved that his eye for goal is superb. It will be up to West Ham to help the Belgian rebuild his confidence after a distinctly underwhelming season at Chelsea.
While there are likely to be a number of personnel changes at West Ham in the summer, their key target must be to find a proven goalscorer to lead their line.
For the last three seasons, the Hammers have tried and failed to bring in a quality finisher.
If Batshuayi can find form early in the season, Slaven Bilic may have solved the perennial striker problems at the London Stadium.
