Alfonso Pedraza's former teammate at Lugo, Jordi Calavera, has told Spanish publication La Voz de Galicia that the on-loan Leeds United winger will not return to the club.

What's the word?

Before Pedraza joined Leeds in January, the 20-year-old joined the Segunda Division team for the first half of the season.

He impressed by scoring six goals and creating eight others in 23 league fixtures, but his time was cut short and he eventually joined the Whites from Villarreal on a temporary basis.

With a player only at a club on loan, their long-term plans are never certain until a permanent deal is signed.

Since moving to Elland Road, Pedraza has scored one goal in six league appearances.

When asked about Pedraza's impact at Lugo, Calavera told La Voz de Galicia:

“We focus on the players we have and we are dead to them. Alfonso is past, he’s gone and we have the comrades we have to achieve the goal.”

Should Leeds keep him?

In January, a report in Marca claimed that Leeds had agreed to pay £250,000 to Villarreal for the loan, which included an option to make the transfer permanent for £8.5m if they achieve promotion to the Premier League.

Pedraza has not exactly set the world alight in the Championship, but he has been a positive addition to Garry Monk's team.

In fairness to the winger, he has only had six opportunities to prove himself on the pitch.

It is easy to forget his young age when playing at a high competitive level, and there is a chance that it could be a step too far if the team reach the Premier League.

If the rumoured option to buy is in place, then it seems to only come into effect if Leeds are promoted, but a permanent move for Pedraza should definitely be deliberated at the end of the season.
