Leeds closing in on a £3million deal to sign Spanish striker Samu Saiz

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds are closing in on the £3million signing of Spanish frontman Samu Saiz from Huesca.

What’s the Story?

After over a month of pursuit, Leeds United are finally set to land Samu Saiz, when he returns from his holiday in Miami, according to the report.

The 27-year-old has been linked with the Elland Road club since the end of the Spanish season but Huesca have been holding out for £3million, which Leeds are now willing to pay. It is believed that a deal could be completed as early as next Monday as the Yorkshire club look to boost their attacking options ahead of the new season.

How good was Saiz last season?

Saiz, a former youth player with Real Madrid, was one of the stars of the Spanish second tier last season. The 26-year-old helped Huesca to a sixth placed finish, scoring 12 goals in the process. However, it was perhaps his assist total that impressed the most. Saiz assisted his teammates nine times during he campaign, an impressive stat for a striker.

Would Saiz be a good signing for Leeds?

In a real season of two halves for Leeds in 2016/17, the club looked almost gauranteed to reach the play-offs in January. However, a poor second half of the season meant that they were once again consigned to England’s second tier.

With so much of the goalscoring pressure lying at the feet of Chris Wood, the addition of another proven goalscorer may just be what the Yorkshire club needs to return to the top flight…and Saiz is certainly capable of that.
