According to Kicker (via Sport Witness), Leeds are on the verge of signing Werder Bremen goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald.

What's the Story?

Reports in Germany are suggesting that Leeds will sign Felix Wiedwald from Werder Bremen, with a fee of well under €1million being touted.

Kicker believe that it is a question of when, and not if, the German keeper signs for the Yorkshire club, who already have Rob Green and Marco Silvestri on their books.

Wiedwald, who is valued at £1.70million by transfermarkt, will not be prevented from heading to England by his current club, according to the report.

How good was Wiedwald last season?

The imposing goalkeeper hard arguably his best season in a Werder Bremen shirt. Featuring 26 times in all competitions for the Bundesliga side, Wiedwald impressed with his speed off the line and distribution. While it has been noted that his shot stopping isn't remarkable, his long, rangy limbs allow him to throw himself across the goal well. While the Championship may well be a true test of just how good Wiedwald is, he has been impressive enough this season to generate interest from a number of clubs.

Is Wiedwald a good fit for Leeds?

This would depend on whether or not new Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen intends to play Wiedwald as his first choice goalkeeper. The Championship is an unforgiving league and one that requires exceptionally large shoulders, especially when playing for Leeds.

While the German is clearly a talented stopper, would he be able to handle the unique pressure of England's second tier? Perhaps a back-up role at Elland Road, at least initially, would ensure that the Wiedwald's transition to the English game is a smooth one.
