Italian outlet calciomercato.com have revealed that Liverpool are interested in Real Madrid right-back Danilo.

What’s the story?

Calciomercato.com’s report centres on interest from Juventus in Danilo - whom they suggest is valued at €25m (£27m) - but ends by claiming that Liverpool are indeed keen on the Brazilian.

The 25-year-old has somewhat struggled to force his way into the Real team this season, making just 15 outings across La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League, which is surely a state of affairs the player is concerned about.

While Liverpool are interested, Juve are also keen, which could cause a problem for the Merseysiders, given that the Old Lady are perennial Serie A champions. The Turin outfit have Stephan Lichtsteiner and Dani Alves to call upon, but with both players ageing, Danilo is seen a good long-term option by the club.

But what about Clyne?

Calciomercato.com claim that Danilo is seen as a potential right midfield option by Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, but it’s hard to see the Real man being purchased with this zone in mind, especially with the Reds’ current system utilising wide attackers, rather than traditional midfielders on the flanks.

It would seem, then, that he is a replacement option for Nathaniel Clyne, who has been criticised by some for his lack of end product, which is somewhat justified by the England international’s meagre tally of two assists and no goals – not overly impressive given that Klopp’s team are the top scorers in the Premier League with 58.
