Manchester United will sensationally make a summer swoop for Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas if the Spaniard is ousted from Stamford Bridge, The Sun reports.

What's the word?

Signed by Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, the Portuguese boss is keen on reuniting with Spanish ace Cesc Fabregas this summer if the former Barcelona and Arsenal man is pushed out the door, following a season of limited opportunities.

Since Antonio Conte took charge at Stamford Bridge, Fabregas has had to settle for limited opportunities in the Premier League this season and his situation has put interested clubs on alert- with Italian giants AC Milan eyeing him as the ideal recruit for their new project.

However, any interest from the San Siro outfit will be rivalled by Manchester United, as Mourinho is a big admirer of the former Arsenal skipper.

Could it really happen?

The difficult for Manchester United would be convincing Chelsea to sell to a domestic rival, as the Blues would surely prefer to ship Fabregas off abroad- and the Spaniard may even prefer that route, adding another league to his career.

At United, Fabregas would face a huge battle for first-team football whereas he's likely to be one of the first names on the team-sheet at AC Milan- with the Italian side, on the brink of a takeover, looking to build a star-studded team around the Spaniard.

A potential move for Fabregas to United would be a far different scenario to the situation that saw Juan Mata leave West London for the Red Devils in 2014, so the chances of this deal materialising are slim.
