Manchester United will set their sights on Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane if they fail to land Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann this summer, The Daily Star reports.

What's the word?

Manchester United are keen to bolster their attacking lines this summer and Jose Mourinho has identified Harry Kane as an alternative to Antoine Griezmann, who is United's prime target but the Red Devils will face a challenge to land his services.

United are prepared to meet Griezmann's release-clause of £85m, and hope close-friend Paul Pogba can help lure him to Old Trafford, but the French striker could elect to remain in the Spanish capital for another year- as Diego Simeone will not be leaving this summer and Atletico are preparing for a move to a new stadium.

Griezmann has also distanced himself from links to United and the Red Devils have set their sights on Kane just in case, with the Tottenham Hotspur striker excelling once again as he's joint-top of the Premier League scoring charts with 17 goals.

Would Kane be better?

If Tottenham Hotspur were to sell Harry Kane to Manchester United, the Red Devils would probably have to pay around the same sort of price that they'd have to for Griezmann- but there is an argument that the England international would be a better fit.

Turning 24 this summer, Kane has already proven himself in the Premier League and has plenty of years ahead of him. Meanwhile Griezmann, who turns 26 this month, has never played outside of Spanish football and may take a while to settle.

Stats wise, Griezmann boasts 53 goals in 98 La Liga appearances for Atletico whilst Kane has 66 goals in 104 appearances- so the Spurs man's numbers are slightly better and, some will argue, have come in the more difficult surroundings of the Premier League.
