According to the Daily Mirror, Manchester United are ready to offer £40million to prize England international Eric Dier away from Tottenham Hotspur.
According to the report, Jose Mourinho is keen to bring a holding midfielder into Old Trafford, with Eric Dier being his first choice. The 23-year-old, who transfermarkt.com value at £18.7m, only signed a contract extension with Spurs last summer but it is thought that the former Sporting Lisbon man may be one of United’s top targets this summer, along with Antoine Griezmann.
However, Daniel Levy drives a hard bargain at White Hart Lane and it is expected that United would have to stump up at least £40million before Spurs let one of their star men leave the club
Over the last two seasons, Eric Dier has been one of a handful of English players in the Spurs ranks who have found an immense consistency to their game. The young star has been an ever present for Pochettino’s men when fit and his presence is certainly missed when he is unavailable.
Dier arguably had a more dominant campaign last season. However, he has continued to develop during the current campaign and has cemented himself as one of England’s very best players.
Other than Tottenham, there is perhaps no better place for Dier to progress his already flourishing talents than at Manchester United.
Jose Mourinho has a ready made space for him in the team, and will appreciate that Dier has grown up and developed in Portugal. Both men would undoubtedly develop a unique understanding, which can only lead to good things for both Manchester United and Eric Dier himself.
