According to The Times, Manchester City are in talks with Napoli over a move for former Liverpool stopper Pepe Reina.

What's the Story?

Following the signing of Ederson from Benfica, Manchester City are reportedly looking for another goalkeeper to act as cover for the Portuguese youngster and Napoli's Pepe Reina is the man they are targeting.

Reina is a close acquaintance of Pep Guardiola and City coach Mikel Arteta and would be willing to sign for the club, even if he is the second-choice stopper. The 34-year-old played under Guardiola during his time at Bayern Munich and it is thought that the esteemed manager remains in close contact with Reina.

Any deal between City and Napoli is reportedly set to be worth around £5million.

How good was Reina last season?

An ever present for Napoli during the 2016/17 season, Reina started an incredible 48 games for the Italian side and impressed with his maturity, confidence and shot-stopping. While it was far from the Spaniard's best season, Reina continued to show why he is still one of Europe's best 'keepers and even managed to earn an international cap for Spain.

Would Reina be a good signing for Man City?

Absolutely. This should almost be a must-have signing for Manchester City - an insurance policy should Ederson fail to live up to expectation. Guardiola's side simply cannot afford to have another ill-equipped 'keeper between the sticks. While Ederson may have a bright future ahead of him, the spotlight of the Premier League may prove to much of a burden for his young shoulders and Reina is the perfect man to step in if that is the case.
