Manchester United chasing Espanyol defender Aaron Martin

According to ESPN, Manchester United are chasing the signature of in-form defender Aaron Martin, who plays for Espanyol.

What’s the Story?

Manchester United scouts were in Barcelona on Friday evening to watch Espanyol take on Levante. And reports have suggested that they were keeping a close eye on the home side’s left-back Aaron Martin.

The 20-year-old, who is valued at £9million on Transfermarkt, only recently signed a long-term contract which would see him remain at Espanyol until 2022. However, providing Manchester United offer enough, Aaron could be on his way to Old Trafford.

How good has Aaron been this season?

An ever-present for much of Espanyol’s domestic campaign, Aaron has impressed with his maturity in spite of his young age. The Spaniard has played in all eight league games so far and has not looked at of place when facing some of the most talented stars in La Liga.

At just 20, the defender has been part of a unit that have conceded just four goals all season…if you discount their 5-0 drubbing at Barcelona!

Would Aaron be a good signing for Manchester United?

This is a tough one to call. Firstly, it is likely that Aaron needs to feature in a few more games before United can decide whether to take a punt on the youngster.

Secondly, the future of Luke Shaw at Old Trafford will likely be a defining factor in any proposed transfer for Aaron. Jose Mourinho’s well publicized outbursts regarding Shaw’s fitness have always meant that the former Southampton star’s future has been the subject of speculation.
