Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe is pondering a move to Arsenal as he wants to play under manager Arsene Wenger, according to Le Parisien.
The 18-year-old has been linked to the world’s top clubs after a scintillating season for Monaco.
The French starlet scored 26 goals in all competitions, and now seems to have his pick of clubs having been linked to Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Liverpool.
Arsenal have also been touted as a potential suitor for Mbappe after Wenger praised the young striker’s progress last season.
According to Le Parisien, a relative of Mbappe has claimed that the teenage striker would still play for Arsenal, despite the club failing to qualify for the Champions League.
“Wenger is a great man. If Kylian signs for Arsenal tomorrow, it will be for him. He knows how to shape young players and especially the former strikers of the French team, Thierry Henry and Nicolas Anelka. The Europa League is not an obstacle in itself.”
Well, according to his relative, Mbappe is a big admirer of Wenger, but if these reports are to be believed, Arsenal is not his dream club.
Le Parisien claims that the youngster sees the club as a ‘stepping stone’ to either Real Madrid or Barcelona in the future.
While it would be a huge boost to the Gunners to have the youngster in their ranks, it is not ideal that he is already planning to move on.
Given his age, the teen would most likely be at the North London outfit for a handful of years, and if last season was anything to go by, he would produce plenty of goals.
However, the Gunners are a successful and established club in their own right, so to be considered as a stepping stone could be taken as a slight insult.
Despite that, it is difficult to find loyalty in football nowadays, and if Mbappe sees the next few seasons at Arsenal, it would be tough for them to turn him down.
