Barcelona are planning to launch a bid for Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin when the transfer window reopens in the summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.

What's the word?

It was only three months ago when Bellerin signed a new long-term contract at the Emirates, appearing to dispel rumours linking him to Manchester City and Barcelona.

However, Mundo Deportivo reports that the Spaniard's new deal has not put off the Catalan giants.

It is believed that Barcelona have placed Bellerin at the top of their wishlist as they try to finally find a replacement for Dani Alves.

The right-back spot has been an issue since the Brazilian left for Juventus last year, and Arsenal's man has been identified as the perfect option.

The report claims that Barcelona are willing to splash the cash in order to seal the 21-year-old's signature.

Could a transfer be on the cards?

Reports suggest that Bellerin is more inclined to leave Arsenal if manager Arsene Wenger departs as well.

The Frenchman's future is uncertain, yet plenty of fans believe that it is time for him to end his 20-year spell in charge of the Gunners.

Bellerin is a big admirer of Wenger, who has acted as the Spaniard's mentor since he joined Arsenal's academy in 2011.

The youngster's willingness to sign a long-term contract at the North London outfit shows that he is happy with his current situation, but the lure of Barcelona is not easy to turn down.

In this instance, Bellerin has an opportunity to become first choice at one of Europe's biggest clubs.

He also has a strong link to the Catalan city as it is his birthplace and he spent eight years developing at Barcelona's academy.
