Ian Wright has told the Sun Football Podcast that Everton star Romelu Lukaku will be trying to impress Chelsea this weekend with the hope of joining the club in the summer.

What's the word?

The Belgian international is likely to attract attention from a number of clubs at the end of the season as his future at Everton remains uncertain.

Chelsea have been linked to his signature, despite letting him leave the club in 2014 to join Everton in a £28m deal.

Lukaku struggled for first-team action during his three-year spell at Stamford Bridge, making just 15 appearances, but he has gone on to become a prolific goalscorer on Merseyside.

He is currently leading the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, with 24 goals to his name, and Wright believes that he will want to impress his former employers when Everton host Chelsea at Goodison Park this Sunday.

The Arsenal legend told the Sun Football Podcast:

“I think Romelu Lukaku will be auditioning for a move back to Chelsea on Sunday. I get the impression that Costa will be leaving at the end of the season. The yen is screaming too loudly for him.

“Lukaku is setting himself up nicely to slip into that role. He’ll want to impress them and show them why he’s the Premier League’s top scorer.”

Will Lukaku have other things on his mind?

No matter how many times footballers say they are not getting distracted by transfer rumours, it is difficult to ignore the speculation.

In Lukaku's case, if he is seriously considering leaving Everton this summer, then potential destinations will be in the back of his mind as the season comes to a close.

Wright claims that the 23-year-old will be auditioning for a move to Stamford Bridge this weekend, but he doesn't need to.

The forward has already proven this season that he is good enough to play at the elite level.

If he does return to Chelsea, he will have to handle a different level of pressure, though, particularly as he failed to cut it in his previous spell.

There will be even heavier weight on his shoulders if Diego Costa departs.
