West Ham United have made contact with soon-to-be-released Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy, according to the Daily Mail.

What's the word?

The Hammers are believed to be hunting for a new shot-stopper for the 2017-18 season.

Slaven Bilic currently has Adrian and Darren Randolph in his first team, but there have been suggestions that the former will leave this summer.

The Daily Mail claims that the East London outfit have turned their attention to Ruddy, who is expected to leave Norwich when his contract expires this summer.

The 30-year-old kept 10 clean sheets in the Championship and featured 29 times during the course of the season.

Is Ruddy right for West Ham?

The former Everton keeper is experienced and reliable, but he is not a huge improvement on the players that West Ham already possess.

It has been an inconsistent campaign for Bilic's men, and a turbulent one at that due to the shock departure of Dimitri Payet in January.

With one game left to play, the club are currently 12th in the Premier League table, which is a big drop from last season's seventh-placed finish.

If the club want to improve in the 2017-18 campaign, then they need to attract a decent calibre of player, and while Ruddy is not a bad option, he is not going to take the team up a level.
