25-year-old Gabbiadini has been linked with a move to the South Coast of England throughout the transfer window and Southampton are confident of getting a deal over the line, with Napoli happy to negotiate a sale.
The Italian has netted just five times in 19 appearances this season and is set to leave Italian football, having agreed a four-year deal worth £40k-a-week with the Saints. A number of Premier League sides were interested in his signature, although it seems the race is done.
Southampton now face a race against the clock though as they thrash out the final points of a deal with Napoli, agreeing an initial £13.6m and an additional £3.4m in bonuses.
At this stage, it’s looking likely. The player wants the move, Southampton want the move and Napoli want to sell. Add the fact that terms have already been agreed and it seems a matter of when and not if- although we saw previously with David De Gea that deals can still fall through at the final moments.
Fortunately, Southampton fans shouldn’t have to worry about that with Gabbiadini and should be able to welcome a fresh name soon.
