Southampton keen on signing Tasci, talks held for defender

Southampton are in-talks to sign Spartak Moscow defender Serdar Tasci on-loan until the end of the season, ESPN have revealed.

What’s the word?

With Jose Fonte moving to West Ham and Virgil Van Dijk unavailable for a while due to injury, Claude Puel’s defensive options on the South Coast are limited and he’s keen to bolster Southampton’s defensive ranks before the window closes tomorrow night.

Germany international Serdar Tasci is the man in Puel’s sights and Southampton have seen negotiations progress well with Spartak Moscow, leaving the club hopeful of concluding a deal before tomorrow evening’s deadline.

Making just nine appearances this season for Spartak, and seeing his contract expire in the summer, Tasci is free to move but time is limited for the Saints to do a deal- and the long flight times from Russia to the South Coast won’t make things easier.

Where does a deal stand?

Southampton and Spartak Moscow are said to be in advanced talks regarding a deal for the 29-year-old and the Saints are hoping to receive the green-light to fly the German over for a medical as soon as possible, with the club wary of the limited hours that remain in the window.

The Saints should not have too much of a problem thrashing out the final details of the move and Tasci should also be keen on the transfer, as he has the opportunity to become a Premier League regular for the remainder of the season.

Available for a free transfer in the summer, it’s also possible that Tasci could earn the chance for a permanent stay with the Saints.
