According to ClubCall, Southampton are ready to launch a bid for Barcelona younsgter Munir, but face stiff competition from Zenit St Petersburg for his signature.
Southampton look set to enter the transfer market for just the second time this summer, with reports suggesting they will make an £8.8million bid for Barcelona youngster Munir.
However, Zenit St. Petersburg are also reportedly in the market for the young Spaniard and have already tabled an offer of around £12.4million.
Having failed to break into the Barcelona side at the start of the 2016/17 season, Munir was loaned to Valencia. During his spell at the Mestalla, the 21-year-old played 34 times in all competitions, scoring seven times and contributing three assist.
A constant live wire in a rather soulless Valencia team, Munir quickly became a favourite among the fans, who delighted in seeing his dribbling ability and technical skill. While he still looked rather immature at times in his play, the experienced he gained at the Mestalla will no doubt hold him in good stead for the future.
Valued at £8million by Transfermarkt, Munir is young, talented and in today’s market, a bargain. While he would certainly have to battle to earn a place in the Southampton team, he could progress incredibly well under Mauricio Pellegrino and would adapt to Southampton’s style of play with relative ease.
While he would need to improve his physicality and reading of the game, taking a punt on a fantastic prospect for less than £10million would be be foolish to turn down.
