Southampton have completed the signing of Italian international Manolo Gabbiadini from Napoli for an undisclosed fee, the Premier League club has announced.

What are the details?

The 25-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year contract after Southampton and Napoli agreed a deal on transfer deadline-day.

Numerous publications, including The Mirror, have reported that Claude Puel's club have parted with £14m to sign the forward.

Gabbiadini arrives at St Mary's having made 78 appearances for Napoli, scoring 24 goals in all competitions since his 2014 switch from Sampdoria in 2015.

After completing his transfer, Gabbiadini told the club's official website:

“I am very, very happy. Since I was a kid, one of my dreams was to perform in one of the biggest leagues in the world, so now that it's happening I can't wait to start playing.

"The facilities that I have seen here are an incredible level – top-level standards even for Serie A. These are the sort of facilities that make you want to come here and perform as soon as possible."

What will he provide for Southampton?

Well, Gabbiadini has mainly been brought in to provide cover for the long-term injured Charlie Austin.

Puel has been relying on the likes of Shane Long and Jay Rodriguez up front, but he now has another option.

The forward may not have thrived at Napoli, but he has plenty of attributes that could see him succeed at St Mary's.

Gabbiadini is technical gifted and is versatile given that he can play up front or as a winger.

The Italian has pace, but his biggest strength is set pieces - he is a free-kick specialist, and Southampton could have done with him this evening as they were beaten 2-1 by Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.
