Atalanta midfielder and Chelsea target Franck Kessie has told Tuttomercatoweb that his “dream” is to play for Manchester United.
The 20-year-old is believed to have been tracked by the Blues for some time, with the Daily Star reporting that Antonio Conte was keen on getting a deal done in January.
The report claims that discussions over a potential swoop were held, but the Premier League outfit decided to wait until the summer to strike a deal.
The West London club will not be encouraged by Kessie’s latest remarks, which come across like a come-and-get-me plea to Manchester United.
“I love the Premier League and in particular the Manchester United, the team for which dream of playing. Chelsea? That too is a great club, no one would refuse, but I dream the United.”
It is clear from Kessie’s comments that he holds a big desire to play for United, but he has not rubbished a switch to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues should pursue a deal if possible because the Ivory Coast international would slot into Conte’s system well.
This season, Kessie has emerged as a strong and confident box-to-box midfielder, who is capable of surging runs and slick movement.
In 21 appearances in all competitions, the midfielder has scored seven goals and produced one assist.
Of course, Kessie is still very young and has plenty of time to develop his game, so a move to such a big club at his age could prove to be detrimental, particularly as he will be fighting high-calibre players for a starting spot.
At the moment he is a key man for Atalanta, who are just six points adrift of the top three in Serie A.
