Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is likely to step up his efforts to sign a right-back before the summer transfer window slams shut at the end of this month, and online bookmakers BetVictor say that the north London outfit are the 2/1 favourites to sign Southampton defender Cedric Soares before deadline day on August 31.

Spurs sold Kyle Walker to Manchester City last month and while do they have Kieran Trippier in their ranks, the former Burnley man has picked up an ankle injury which meant that youngster Kyle Walker-Peters started their opening day Premier League win against Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday.

However, even though reports in The Telegraph suggest that Chelsea would be willing to make a £20m move for Soares as they look to provide competition for Victor Moses in the right wing-back spot, Pochettino’s men are still the 2/1 favourites to land the Portugal international with the Blues out at 4/1.

The 25-year-old has certainly been an impressive performer for Saints over the course of the last two seasons, and he showed his defensive and offensive capabilities throughout the 2016/17 campaign.

In 30 top flight appearances, Soares made 97 clearances and 35 interceptions, as well as winning 62 tackles, while he showed his contribution going forward by successfully completing 12 of the 14 take-ons he attempted and creating 40 chances for his teammates.
