According to reports in the Sunday Mirror, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has instructed the club to make a world-record £100m move for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane rather than trying to bring Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford this summer.
The Portuguse boss is keen to sign a top-class replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and wants Kane, but a bid of £100m is unlikely to be enough to get the England star.
For the third successive season the 23-year-old was in outstanding form for Spurs as they challenged for the Premier League title, and he ended the campaign with the Golden Boot after scoring a remarkable 29 goals in 30 top flight appearances, and 35 in all competitions.
Tottenham supporters were quick to have their say on the rumour via social media, with all of them dismissing the story and some even saying that the price for Kane would be the same as their new stadium, not £100m.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

You can't blame UTD or anyone else for wanting to sign Kane. But to do so would wreck the project & I don't see it happening. #THFC
