Tottenham Hotspur are considering a summer swoop for Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa, according to the Daily Mail.

What's the word?

Mauricio Pochettino is believed to be keen to strengthen his squad in the summer in preparation for next season's Premier League and Champions League commitments.

The Daily Mail claims that Costa, who is rated between £25m ad £30m, is one of the targets that the manager believes will add extra quality to his team.

The Brazilian joined the Bundesliga giants in 2015 from Shakhtar Donetsk, but under head coach Carlo Ancelotti this season he has struggled for game time.

He has started 13 league games and has come on as a substitute in a further eight, and in the Champions League the winger has been named in the first XI just four times.

Earlier in the season, Costa hinted at a possible departure by revealing that he had received contact from English clubs.

What can Costa provide?

The 26-year-old may not be at the forefront of Ancelotti's mind, but he still has plenty to offer.

Crossing, shots from distance and running at opponents are just a few of the qualities that Costa possesses.

Despite his limited game time, the Brazilian has still managed to find the back of the net seven times in all competitions, and has also registered six assists.

From Tottenham's point of view, they have demonstrated that they are on the cusp of having a team that can dominate consistently, but they showed last season a lack of experience.

Spurs' title challenge crumbled in the final few games of the campaign, and during this season they struggled to make their mark in the Champions League.

Therefore, having a player that has competed at the elite level could prove hugely beneficial.

Last season, Costa was a pivotal figure in helping Bayern seal the Bundesliga crown and DFB-Pokal, and if he can take that form to White Hart Lane, then Tottenham's improvement will be clear to see.
