The agent of Tottenham Hotspur target Mateo Kovacic has revealed that his client will not be leaving Real Madrid this summer, according to ClubCall.
The North London outfit are believed to be among a number of clubs, including Roma and Inter Milan, who are interested in the 23-year-old midfielder.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino will be looking to bring in additions to his squad this summer in order to launch another assault on the Premier League title race.
The second-placed club are due to fall short once again as Chelsea will take home the trophy with a win over West Bromwich Albion on Friday.
Kovacic is one such target, but according to ClubCall, his agent Nikky Vulsan has insisted that the Croatian will stay at the Bernabeu, despite not gaining regular game time.
“There is not any news. Or rather, there are no chances that this will be possible. Mateo has a very long contract with Real Madrid, which runs until 2021. So I do not understand all these rumours, all this speculation about his future.”
Kovacic has some impressive qualities – he is strong on the ball and can thread passes through from deep in midfield – but he is not a player that Spurs desperately need.
Pochettino has plenty of midfielders at his disposal, including Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama, while Eric Dier can also flit between the middle of the park and defence.
Another red flag is the fact that the young player has had little first-team action this summer.
Zinedine Zidane has included Kovacic in the starting XI 18 times in La Liga and twice in the Champions League.
The midfielder has played a full 90 minutes on just 12 occasions in all competitions, so there is no guarantee that he would thrive when thrown into the first team at Spurs.
