Tottenham Hotspur are favourites to sign Barcelona starlet Carles Alena in a cut-price deal, reports AS.

What's the story?

Spurs have been very quiet in the transfer window so far, but reports in Spain believe that a youngster could be arriving at the club in due course.

AS claims that a handful of clubs are keeping tabs on Alena, but Tottenham are the ones who are leading the chase.

It is believed that if the North London outfit swoop before July 1, they can sign the 19-year-old for just £2.6m.

When this month is over, the price tag increases to £10.5m, which will be in place until his contract expires at the end of next season.

So, who is Alena?

The teenager made has been developed in Barcelona's prestigious academy and he possesses plenty of attacking flair.

Alena, whose position is in the middle of the park and is predominately left footed, made his first-team debut for the Catalan giants last season.

His early route into the setup shows that there is plenty of promise, and he showcased that by scoring on his debut in the Copa del Rey.

Would he fit in at Tottenham?

Mauricio Pochettino has already proven that he can shape young talent and transform them into first-team regulars.

Dele Alli is a prime example of that as he is arguably one of the first names on the teamsheet at the age of just 21.

It would be a big ask for Alena to hit the ground running given his age and zero Premier League experience, but for the price reported, he is worth making a move for.

The fact that he was selected from the competitive academy to join the senior players shows that he is worthy of testing himself at the top level.

Alena could provide an additional attacking spark to Tottenham's midfield.
