Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea are leading the race to land Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko this summer as both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte look to prepare for Champions League football once again, according to RMC Sport.
The domestic adversaries will meet in the transfer market this summer when, as both managers look to bolster their squads ahead of a return to Europe’s top table, they clash over a deal for Ligue 1 champion Bakayoko.
Whilst United’s stop in the Champions League is yet to be confirmed the workings of deals based on them being in the competition will have already begun.
Liverpool have also been credited with interest, although the reports claim that the Reds are falling behind both Mourinho and Conte in the pursuit of a €45m (£38.7m) deal.
It would seem obvious that a move to the recently crowned Premier League champions would make the most sense for anyone having to pick between Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford, however, it is worth having a deeper look.
Both managers will offer an equally ambitious and lucrative project to the industrious 22-year-old midfielder, but it is where the more playing time will come which could well decided a move.
With that in mind, although there is a chance Bakayoko could unseat Nemanja Matic in Conte’s side, a move to join Mourinho would seem wiser.
The former Real Madrid boss has been tinkering with his midfield all season, looking to find the perfect third person to join Ander Hererra and Paul Pogba in his side.
With Michael Carrick getting older and likely to play a lesser role next season, it would seem that there would be chances a plenty for Bakayoko at the Theatre of Dreams.
