According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via The Daily Star), Liverpool target Leandro Paredes could be set to leave Roma, after the club have offered him an ultimatum…sign a new contract or leave.
Reports in Italy have claimed that star midfielder Leandro Paredes will be asked to sign a new contract with Roma or be forced out of the club for £22million.
Liverpool and Juventus have both expressed interest in the player according to reports and both could be set to launch a bid for the Argentinian international who has burst onto the European scene this during the last 12 months.
Featuring 41 times for Roma this season, 22-year-old Paredes was an integral part of his teams’ assault on Serie A. While Roma failed to pick up any silverware this season, a number of their players impressed watching scouts, especially Paredes whose mature and assured performances were consistently exceptional.
The young South American was rewarded for his dependable performances with a call-up to the Argentinian national squad last month and scored on his debut.
For a number of years now, Liverpool have failed to replace key departures in midfield. Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano all left the club and have never been replaced by players of comparable quality.
However, should Klopp decide to make a move for Paredes, he could offer elements of each of the aforementioned players skillset. The Argetine has phenomenal passing ability akin to Alonso, possesses the tough tackling attitude of Javier Mascherano and the intelligence of Steven Gerrard.
