Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is interested in a summer move to join former manager Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, according to reports from La Parisien.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is looking to build a side capable of further challenging in the Premier League, as well as competing in the Champions League having secured qualification on the final day of last season.
With that in mind, the reports from France claiming that the Gabon international is interested in a reunion with the German will be music to the ears of fans on Merseyside.
The £55.25m-rated forward, who will supposedly set the Reds back £61m this summer, made 93 appearances under Klopp in Germany, scoring 41 goals but has soared in terms of numbers since, scoring 79 goals in the 95 appearances made since Klopp’s departure.
So long has it been since Liverpool were a real force on the international stage that some may feel this is a deal above their station. However, it seems that the powers that be on Merseyside are waking up to the life they can offer a potential signing.
One of the biggest clubs in world football, let alone Europe, the Reds are back where they belong having finished in the top four last season, and will look to build on that over the coming years, meaning additions such as Aubameyang are crucial.
Should Klopp land a deal for his former striker, it would surely send the message to other potential targets that the club fully intend on staying at Europe’s top table over the coming seasons.
