According to Goal, Manchester City are on the verge of completing a £35million deal for Benfica goalkeeper Ederson Moraes - just days after snapping up Bernardo Silva from Monaco.

What’s the Word?

Manchester City could finally be on the verge of securing a long-term goalkeeping talent, with Ederson Moraes of Benfica potentially confirmed as a City player early this week.

Goal claim the Brazilian is close to a potential £35million move, which has seemingly been confirmed by reports in A Bola. The Portuguese newspaper describe Ederson as “practically” a Man City player, after Benfica have confirmed their interest in Atletico Madrid’s André Moreira as a replacement.

Pep Guardiola was expected to act quickly in securing a first choice goalkeeper this summer, with Joe Hart clearly not wanted after returning from a loan spell with Torino and Claudio Bravo failing to impress during his first campaign in the Premier League.

How good has Ederson been this season?

In his first full season as Benfica’s first choice ‘keeper, Ederson has been exceptional, especially in the Champions League. His form was rewarded with a call-up to the Brazilian national side, although he is still yet to make his international debut.

Is Ederson a good fit for City?

The 23-year-old has displayed all of the qualities that Pep Guardiola will be looking for in a long-term goalkeeper for Manchester City.

Ederson is very adept at using his feet and his distribution is fantastic. The Brazilian will be the perfect man to ensure that City can build up attacks from the back, or counter quickly with his fast and accurate release balls.

However, perhaps most importantly, Ederson is a tall, strong, athletic goalkeeper who will not be overawed by the physical nature of the Premier League.
