Fierce rivals Manchester United and Manchester City are set to clash in the summer market over the coming months, as both Jose Mouinho and Pep Guardiola chase a deal for Monaco star Bernardo Silva, however, according to Le10Sport the Red Devils are in the driving seat.

What's the word?

Both Mourinho and Guardiola haven't exactly had the best of starts to life at their respective clubs. United are set to finish sixth, although could still make the Champions League by beating Ajax in the Europa League final, whereas City's only triumph this season will be a top four finish, which can be sealed against Watford this weekend.

Both were expected to challenge for the Premier League title this season but haven't even got close, meaning there is plenty of work to be done this summer.

Having just lifted the Ligue 1 title with Monaco, the first time in 17 years for the French outfit, Silva knows how to bring home silverware and has been a key member of one of the most exciting sides in Europe this season, also reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League having knocked out Guardiola's side.

Where would he fit in?

At Old Trafford last summer's signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan has largely played out on the right, where Silva has sat for Monaco all season, which is hardly an area in which Mourinho needs too much improvement, although he does need depth.

It is a similar story across in the sky blue half of the city where England international Raheem Sterling has flourished under Guardiola on the right.

It seems, then, that the two managers are chasing depth ahead of their attempts to crack Europe next season. Overworking of a side has often been a criticism labelled at English clubs, considering there is no winter break, and it seems Mourinho and Guardiola both understand they are going to need quality around every corner to have any success on the continent next season.
