According to the Newcastle Chronicle, West Ham and Newcastle could be set for a sensational swap deal which would see Adrian head to Tyneside, with Karl Darlow moving in the other direction.

What's the Story?

With Newcastle reportedly searching for a new first-choice goalkeeper, it appears that Rafael Benitez could make a move for compatriot Adrian, who has lost his place in the West Ham team to new arrival Joe Hart. However, the report states that West Ham could ask for Karl Darlow in return.

Benitez has told Tim Krul that he has no future at Newcastle and is also reportedly happy to let Karl Darlow move to pastures new. While Adrian looks unlikely to feature regularly for the Hammers next season, it could well be the perfect move for both clubs.

How good was Adrian last season?

30-year-old Adrian, who is valued at £6.8million by Transfermarkt, struggled to find any kind of consistency last season. The Spaniard shared first-team goalkeeping duties with Darron Randolph and featured in just 18 games in all competitions for the East London club.

While there is no questioning Adrian's shot stopping abilities, he does make regular mistakes and is unlikely to find a way back into the fold at West Ham.

How good was Darlow last season?

Having been relegated to the Championship, Newcastle finally offered Darlow a chance of regular first team football at St. James's. The 26-year-old featured 36 times for the eventual champions and proved a worthy number one. However, it seems like Bentiez believes that the step up to the Premier League is too much for the former Nottingham Forest man.
