West Ham United plan to hold talks with Pedro Obiang regarding a potential new contract, according to Sky Sports.
The East London outfit are believed to be keen to reward the Spaniard for an impressive season.
The 24-year-old midfielder has made 20 appearances, 19 of which were starts, in the Premier League and has featured eight times in cup competitions.
According to The Sun, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is keeping his eye on the midfielder ahead of a potential summer swoop.
However, Sky Sports reports that the Hammers want to shoo away potential suitors by opening talks over fresh terms.
The Spaniard’s first season at West Ham was not hugely impressive following his £5m switch from Sampdoria in the summer of 2015.
He was unable to hit the ground running, but he has become more of an important figure in Slaven Bilic’s team in the 2016-17 campaign.
It is believed that Obiang’s worth has risen to £18m, and even though there is no need to rush through a new deal considering that he has two years left on his current one, it is a sign of commitment.
From West Ham’s point of view, it will put them in a strong position if rival clubs come calling for the midfielder’s signature.
