West Ham United target Daniel Sturridge has suggested to Sky Sports that he could stay at Liverpool next season.

What's the word?

The England international was limited to just 27 appearances in all competitions this season, including only seven starts in the Premier League.

Injuries have played a part in Sturridge's lack of game time, but also manager Jurgen Klopp has preferred to use Roberto Firmino as a focal point or Divock Origi.

This has led to reports that Sturridge could call an end to his four-and-a-half-year spell at Anfield.

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic has openly discussed his admiration for the 27-year-old striker, and the East London club are in need of some firepower after scoring 47 goals this season, 39 fewer than the league's top attackers Tottenham Hotspur.

Amid the rumours surrounding his future, Sturridge, who started the final two games of the season, insisted that he is happy at Liverpool and the ball is in the club's court.

According to the Liverpool Echo, when asked if he will be at the club next season, Sturridge told Sky Sports:

“That is for the club to decide, for myself I am enjoying my football. My job is to go on the pitch and put my best foot forward. There is nothing to discuss really. I have two years left on my deal and I am happy here.”

Is this a blow for West Ham?

At the moment it seems that Sturridge wants to remain on Merseyside, but that does not mean that he will.

If the England striker is among Jurgen Klopp's squad for the 2017-18 campaign, then West Ham would have missed out, but it may not be such a huge loss.

On his day, Sturridge can be an unstoppable force in front of goal, but it is difficult to ignore the constant injury problems that he suffers with.

Not only that, the injuries that he picks up tend to keep him out for lengthy spells rather than small stints on the treatment table.

It would be a risk for West Ham to rely on a striker so injury-prone, and the club is well aware of this considering that they have similar issues with Andy Carroll.

The 28-year-old managed just 18 Premier League appearances this season.
