Liverpool will challenge Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, according to Telefoot.
Spurs have been the leading contenders for the midfielder’s signature for a long time where the media and bookies are concerned.
The supporters are so keen on the 21-year-old moving to the North London outfit that they regularly tweet the club’s official page asking for them to “announce” him as their new signing.
However, it seems that a spanner has been thrown into the works now that Liverpool have seemingly entered the race.
Telefoot reports that Juventus are also interested in the midfielder, while Tottenham’s arch rivals Arsenal are keeping tabs.
The France international has flare and is very attack-minded, so he would fit into any team that implements free-flowing football.
The youngster is versatile in that he can play on either the right or left, and can push further forward.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has been able to shape a young team into title contenders, and Lemar would slot in nicely.
Liverpool also adopt an attacking approach, but the good news for Spurs is that the Merseyside outfit are believed to be closing in on the signing of Mohamed Salah from Roma.
Sky Sports reported on Thursday that a deal has already been agreed in principle, and now the final details need to be hashed out to complete the £35m transfer.
If the move does go through, the Reds may not be as determined to bring in Lemar, if they are in fact interested at all.
