West Bromwich Albion have plenty of business to tend to this summer.

The Baggies may well be a Premier League team by the time the transfer window opens and if they are, they’ll have plenty of money to spend.

You’d imagine that a bit of that cash is going to go towards making Matheus Pereira’s loan deal a permanent one as the Brazilian has been one of Albion’s star players this term and they have an option to buy him.

If the 26-year-old is signed permanently, the Midlands club will want to get the best out of him, and in order to do that, they may need another new player in a different position.

Pereira is a multi-talented player capable of playing in numerous roles, but the playmaker is quite clearly at his best when playing centrally rather than on the wing.

In the middle he has 14 goal contributions from 19 starts, while in other positions he has just four goal contributions from 10 starts.

However, in recent times he’s been played out on the right more often than not, starting seven consecutive games on the flank due to Grady Diangana’s absence.

Diangana may not be at The Hawthorns next season as he’s due to return to West Ham in the summer, and Pereira’s recent performances show that the Baggies simply have to bring in a winger if they want to get the best out of their talisman once again.

It frees him up to return to that central berth and if West Brom pick the right addition, they could find someone for Pereira to really connect with on the pitch.

Pereira has the quality to light up the Premier League upon Albion’s return to the top-flight, but he won’t make the impact we all know he can make if he’s played out of position.

Fingers crossed Luke Dowling already has a winger in his sights.

In other news, one West Brom man’s season has been better than the fan reaction suggests.
