West Brom could seal masterstroke with Jody Morris appointment

West Bromwich Albion are reportedly in talks with a new manager…

What’s the latest?

According to Football Insider, Jody Morris has emerged as a surprise name to replace Steve Bruce.

Having entered talks, he joins an ever-growing list of names that have been touted to take up the Hawthorns’ hot seat. It marks a search that has been going on for 11 days now since the sacking.

Is Jody Morris a big risk for West Brom?

Whilst he would mark one of the more inexperienced appointments, he could have the potential to take them right back to the very top.

It could be a masterstroke

Having earned the bulk of his expertise as Frank Lampard’s assistant, he has already nearly overseen one promotion with Derby County.

Alongside the great midfielder, the two spearheaded their playoff push which was brutally ended by Aston Villa at Wembley.

They would return to each other’s side at Chelsea, widening his experience from Championship to Champions League.

Their management team earned huge praise for their first season with the Blues, where despite a transfer ban, they managed to finish fourth.

Throughout the campaign, they were lauded for their ability to bring youth through into a high-pressure environment and allow them to thrive.

First up in this West Brom transfer quiz, which club did the Baggies sign Alex Mowatt from?

Whilst he is yet to manage on his own, he has shown desperation to break away from Lampard.

Now that he is manager of Everton, it seems like it would be the perfect time for Morris to similarly spread his wings.

The 43-year-old was labelled “fantastic”, and heralded for achieving a whole new ”identity” for Chelsea, according to Steve Sidwell.

He could now move to the Midlands to create a similar identity for a club stripped of everything by his predecessor.

With the Baggies, morale is at an all-time low. He would enter with little initial expectations, and it could provide the perfect environment for them to thrive.

It might prove a monumental risk to appoint Morris, but his experience far outweighs many mentioned alongside him.

Few can claim that they have experience in Europe’s paramount competition, and the fact that he knows how to get a team flying in the Championship could be crucial.

It might just be a rare masterstroke by Ron Gourlay.
