West Brom recalled Josh Griffiths from his loan spell at Portsmouth last week and Carlos Corberan should consider handing him a chance in the first team.

Steve Bruce opted to send the promising young shot-stopper out on loan during the summer but persisted with David Button despite his woeful form, with WhoScored ranking the 33-year-old as comfortably the worst performer in the Baggies' first team so far this campaign with a shocking 5.99 average rating.

Corberan was quick to put his faith in Alex Palmer as the number one choice in between the sticks instead and that has coincided with the Baggies' impressive run of form, with the 26-year-old keeping an impressive nine clean sheets in 15 games.

However, in Griffiths West Brom look to have one of the top young goalkeepers in the EFL, as he has previously helped Cheltenham Town to promotion and been a regular for Lincoln City in the third tier.

During his first loan spell away from the Hawthorns with Cheltenham Town, chairman Andy Wilcox was full of praise for Griffiths, saying:

“He really enjoyed it here. I watched him from game one to his last of the season and he’s improved no end.

“He’s just got better and better, so credit to Booky [Steve Book, goalkeeping coach] for giving him confidence. He has a big future, that lad.”

Although Portsmouth's form has suffered in recent weeks, with Danny Cowley sacked as manager earlier this month, Griffiths would still amass seven clean sheets in 22 appearances for Pompey, which represents another impressive return from the youngster.

He also kept a remarkable 23 clean sheets in 50 appearances during his time at Cheltenham, clearly playing a huge part in their promotion to League One, so perhaps he could have a similar impact in the Baggies' side this campaign.

Therefore, while Corberan might be reticent to drop Palmer after his strong recent form, it is time that Griffiths was given a chance to show what he can do in West Brom's first team, as he is still yet to make his senior debut for the Midlands club.
