West Bromwich Albion are reportedly looking to secure a summer transfer for Newcastle United attacker Elliot Anderson.

What's the news?

According to a recent report from the Edinburgh Evening News, the Baggies are one of the clubs plotting a bid to sign the player this summer.

In addition to fellow Championship clubs such as Bristol City, Luton Town, Millwall and Huddersfield Town being mentioned with an interest in the youngster, League One duo Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol Rovers are also after Anderson, along with Scottish clubs Hibernian and Hearts.

The 19-year-old has made 56 appearances for Newcastle across their senior and youth teams, scoring 23 goals and providing eight assists along the way.

During his first and only loan spell away from the Tyneside club, where he spent the second half of last season helping Bristol Rovers get promoted to League One, the teenager found the net eight times and delivered five assists in 21 games.

In those 21 games, the teenager racked up 74 shots at goal, 32 crosses and 23 successful tackles, highlighting how dangerous he can be going forward and how useful he can be without the ball in terms of trying to win possession back for his team.

A massive coup

With 77 club appearances to his name at senior and youth levels, Anderson has 31 goals and 13 assists under his belt. This highlights just how much of an asset he could be for the Baggies and their hopes of getting back to the Premier League at the end of next season, if he comes to The Hawthorns.

It also shows why his ability on the ball was hailed as "effortless" by Bruce back when he was Newcastle's manager and gave Anderson his senior debut.

Having also been described as a "ballerina" by Bristol Rovers manager and former Newcastle player Joey Barton, which shows just how much talent the youngster has and how difficult he can be to play against.

Taking all this into account, it's safe to say that it would be a massive coup by Albion if they were able to beat the myriad other clubs looking to sign the Newcastle starlet this summer.

With that in mind, the Baggies should now be doing all they can to get the youngster to The Hawthorns and mixed in with the rest of Bruce's squad.
