Having undergone a torrid season thus far, the appointment of Carlos Corberan was expected to instantly turn the tide at West Bromwich Albion.

However, their game against Sheffield United saw the façade come crashing down, as they lost 2-0 with the only two shots on target they conceded.

Despite this, it is their toothless nature that has truly let them down so far.

The Baggies have scored just 20 goals in 17 games and sit rock bottom of the Championship on just 14 points.

Karlan Grant was supposed to be the man to ensure this would never be the case – having been signed for £15m back in 2020 – but just three goals so far make for a dismal return. Indeed, he could be set for a spell out of the team come January with the Baggies casting their eyes towards attacking reinforcements.

Although Steve Bruce was afforded only £1.21m to spend in the summer, recent reports have emerged claiming that not only are they looking to secure a £25m loan for January, but West Brom also want to sign the top scorer in the division.

That’s according to reports just last week from the Scottish Sun, who note interest from the Midlands club as well as Rangers, Brentford, Watford and Bournemouth.

The 25-year-old has scored nine goals already this campaign, yet his Blackpool side still sits 15th.

It is therefore expected that he would be open to a move, and with West Brom’s aspirations of promotion in the coming seasons, it might be something he would be keen on.

His former boss Richie Wellens has led the praise for the marksman, claiming: "He's good at everything. He's got decent pace, he can hold the ball up…he's a fantastic professional that wants to get everything out of his career."

Arguably, to get the best out of his career, the next logical step up would be to move to a club the size of the Baggies.

If Corberan can secure both the loan and the signing of Yates, it would certainly offer a huge boost to what has so far been a dismal campaign and it could also see Grant axed from the team.

Whether it forces Albion's current striker into action or pushes him into obsoletion, it would be a wonderful signing to kickstart the Spaniard’s reign.
