An update has emerged on out-of-contract attacker Famara Diedhiou, regarding West Brom's interest in signing him...

What's the talk?

According to the Bristol Post, West Brom are showing an interest in signing out-of-contract centre-forward Famara Diedhiou this summer. He is a free agent after leaving Bristol City upon the expiry of his deal last week and the Baggies are looking to swoop him up.

The report claims that he has offers from Turkey and England and that he is not in contention to re-sign with Bristol City amid plenty of interest in his signature.

Dike 2.0

Valerien Ismael caught the eye with his management of Barnsley in the Championship last season, leading them to the play-offs and one of his most impressive moves was the signing of Daryl Dike on loan in the January transfer window.

He brought the American forward in and he was able to help fire them into the top six with his superb performances.

Dike found the back of the net nine times in 14 starts for Ismael, whilst also winning an eye-catching 5.9 aerial battles per game. This shows that he was able to be the focal point Ismael wanted at the top end of the pitch, scoring goals and holding the ball up with his physical play. Therefore, the French coach may now want a similar player to lead the line for him at The Hawthorns and Diedhiou could be the perfect target.

Earlier this year, Bristol City assistant Keith Downing hailed the “excellent” forward alongside Nahki Wells, following an impressive display in the Championship.

He told Bristol City's official website:

"We put two up front today and Nahki and Famara were excellent, they played very well with each other and caused problems on the counter-attack.

“They showed composure with a good header and side-foot from Famara and then Nahki taking it round the keeper. We want more from them but it shows they have the ability to go and do it."

Diedhiou managed eight goals in 23 Championship starts for Bristol City and racked up 5.2 aerial battles won per game. This is after he score 13, 13 and 12 goals in his three previous Championship seasons for the club, whilst averaging over five aerial battles won per game in three of his four campaigns in England.

This shows that he is a proven goalscorer in the second tier and that he is capable of holding the ball up and winning headers against defenders to help alleviate pressure and get his team up the pitch.

Therefore, Ismael could secure his Dike-style centre-forward for the Baggies by bringing in Diedhiou. The former Bristol City ace is also available for fee as his contract expired, making it a financially attractive deal for West Brom as they will not need to spend a penny on transfer fees for him.
