West Bromwich Albion: Dara O’Shea linked with Burnley move

West Bromwich Albion defender, Dara O’Shea, has been linked with summer transfer move to fellow Championship club Burnley.

What’s the news?

According to a recent report from Football League World, Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has set his eyes on bringing O’Shea to Turf Moor as a potential replacement for Nathan Collins, who recently joined Wolves.

First up in this West Brom transfer quiz, which club did the Baggies sign Alex Mowatt from?

The defender joined the Baggies’ U18 side back in 2015 and has since gone on to make 103 appearances for the Midlands club across their senior and youth teams, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in the process.

Last season saw the 23-year-old make just 14 league appearances for the Baggies as an ankle fracture kept him out of action for a large chunk of the campaign.

Despite this, the Irishman still managed to end the season as West Brom’s highest-rated player in terms of his overall performances, as WhoScored gave him an impressive rating of 7.09/10.

West Brom fans would be gutted

The Baggies’ 2020/21 Premier League season saw the centre-back make 28 appearances in which he managed to show off his defensive talent.

In those 28 appearances, O’Shea won 30 tackles and made 53 blocks, 39 interceptions and 143 clearances.

Taking all of this into account, it’s safe to say that the player is a big asset for the club and would be a big loss for them if he were to leave this summer.

It would also be a big disappointment for the fans to see O’Shea join another club in the division looking to get back to the Premier League as it would no doubt harm their own chances of being promoted in 2022/23.

Should WBA consider selling Dara O'Shea?

Additionally, with fellow Baggies defender Cedric Kipre reportedly close to joining Cardiff City, seeing the Irishman leave in the same window would surely be a big blow to the club and their chances.

As a result, West Brom should have no intention of allowing O’Shea to leave the club this summer, as his defensive talents could be the difference between seeing the club reach promotion or succumbing to another season in the Championship.

If, however, the defender were to make a move to the Lancashire club in the coming weeks to join Kompany’s ranks, this would surely mean West Brom would have to look for a suitable replacement before the window closes.
