West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Bruce has dropped a teasing claim surrounding the club's current stance in the summer transfer window.

What's the news?

Speaking after the Baggies' latest pre-season game (via Birmingham Live), the manager had this to say

"My job is to be never finished and to keep knocking on the door to improve the quality.

"I believe the big ones, the real big clubs of our country are all on tour. They are all taking their young ones with them so I still think there is a bit of work to be done in those areas so we'll see."

Great news for West Brom supporters

In terms of what business has already been done, the Baggies have secured deals for the likes of Jed Wallace, John Swift and Okay Yokuslu on free transfers, in addition to sealing a permanent deal for Jayson Molumby following his loan spell at the Hawthorns last season.

While new faces and some familiar ones have made moves to the club, some players have also waved goodbye to the Hawthorns this summer such as Sam Johnstone, Romaine Sawyers and Andy Carroll.

Cedric Kipre has also made a move out of the club in recent days as he joined fellow Championship side, Cardiff City, on a season-long loan deal.

With the number of free transfers that the club have made so far in this window, it will be interesting to see if the Baggies end up signing any players for a fee rather than continue their track record of signing free agents out of contact.

Now that Bruce has shared this latest behind-the-scenes claim, this will surely be great news for a lot of West Brom fans hoping to see more players added to the squad before the window closes.

In terms of what sort of players the club should aim to bring in, the fact that Kipre has now left would suggest that a new centre-back would be needed for the campaign, especially if they don't end up managing to sign Matt Clarke from Brighton & Hove Albion after his loan spell with the Baggies last season.

Also, despite the arrival of Swift and Wallace, a new attacking player could be very useful for Bruce's side given how they ended their previous campaign with fewer goals scored (52) than several clubs that finished below them in the table.
