While Valerien Ismael’s reign at West Bromwich Albion could hardly have got off to a better start, with the Baggies having won three and drawn one of their opening four fixtures of the season, there are nevertheless some areas of his squad in which the Frenchman could use further reinforcements in the transfer market.
One such area is the number nine role, with the 45-year-old manager himself stating his desire to sign a player in the position prior to the closure of the summer transfer window at the beginning of next week.
As a result, it has been reported that the Baggies are considering moves for a number of different centre-forwards, one of whom is believed to be Orlando City striker, Daryl Dike.
However, with Crystal Palace recently reported to have joined the race to sign the 21-year-old, it would seem as if, should the Albion boss indeed wish to secure the signing of the USA international this summer, he will have to make a move rather quickly.
It is easy to see why Ismael is eager to bring in a new number nine this summer, as, aside from Kenneth Zohore – a player who scored two goals over 17 Championship appearances while on loan at Millwall last season – the Frenchman does not have any natural options in the position.
Furthermore, Dike would not only appear to be a fantastic addition to the West Brom squad as a result of his ability to consistently find the back of the net, but he is also a player whom the Baggies manager knows extremely well, having signed the 21-year-old on loan during his time in charge of Barnsley.
As such, Dike would appear to fit Ismael’s bill perfectly, however, with the potential offer of Premier League football on the table in the shape of a move to Palace, the Frenchman must do all he can to tie up a deal for the 6ft 2 hitman as quickly as possible – or else he risks being left high and dry in his search for a centre-forward.
