West Ham United U23s booked their place in the Premier League International Cup, as they defeated Derby County on penalties after a 3-3 draw.
There is one youngster who specifically caught Carlton Cole’s eye during the game, as he tweeted about Oladapo Afolayan, calling him “the truth”.
The 22-year-old joined the Hammers from Solihull Moors in 2018, which has been followed by loan moves with Oldham Athletic and Mansfield Town.
He is making an impact after making his return to playing in claret and blue, as was shown in this game, with the forward scoring the first two goals of the game with very clinical finishes.
The first effort was a first-time shot that gave the goalkeeper no chance, while the second came as he got the ball in the box, before hitting a shot on the swivel that nestled just inside the far post.
He has also shown what he is capable of in Premier League 2 games, scoring three goals and assisting another four in seven starts and one substitute appearance.
