David Moyes must unleash Andriy Yarmolenko after EFL Cup masterclass

West Ham United enjoyed their break from Premier League action earlier this week as they thrashed Charlton Athletic 3-0 in the EFL Cup second round.

And even though the performance does very little in the grand scheme of things, it may have just handed David Moyes something huge to ponder.

Club-record signing Sebastien Haller bagged himself a brace with fellow expensive flop Felipe Anderson also getting himself on the scoresheet.

However with the Brazilian reportedly on the chopping block before next month’s transfer deadline, he has surely just put his name in the shop window for any interested parties.

Instead, Moyes should look to call upon Andriy Yarmolenko more often after the veteran winger delivered a masterclass display on the other side of the pitch to Anderson.

Would you like to see more of Andriy Yarmolenko this season?

Yes, he's better than most!

No way, sell him ASAP...

Aside from assisting the 22nd-minute opener, the 30-year-old recorded three key passes, two dribbles, won three free-kicks and enjoyed a pass accuracy of 84%, via SofaScore.

With so much controversy surrounding the sale of Grady Diangana this month, perhaps it would be wise to consider a more frequent role for Yarmolenko, who cost £18m back in 2018.

Felipe Anderson is on borrowed time at the Hammers

Despite only ten Premier League starts last term, the Ukrainian winger still contributed to six goals, two of which came off the bench after the top-flight restart post-lockdown.

Injuries have hampered his time at the London Stadium somewhat, but he should still be given a chance to impress after Tuesday’s performance.

Lukasz Fabianski has made the No.1 shirt his own, but who was the last player to wear the No.1 shirt before him?

It’s thought that Yarmolenko is a “leader” in the dressing room and considering he’s picking up a whopping £115k-per-week, he ought to be played.

Garth Crooks’ praise in 2019 only goes to show just how lethal he could be for the Irons, he said: “This lad can bend balls around keepers for fun. The Ukraine international has the ability to beat the goalkeeper once he is on his favoured left foot. He is also starting to become a firm favourite among the West Ham faithful.”

Whilst teammate Declan Rice believes he has “really special” technique.

It’s time to throw down the gauntlet to Yarmolenko this season. If Moyes utilises him like last night, then he could well be onto a winner.

AND in other news, West Ham’s pursuit of £26m Premier League flop reeks of being a GSB panic buy
