Football.London writer Sam Inkersole believes Declan Rice announced himself at the Euros, but he can’t see him leaving West Ham this summer, although he does believe that it’s a move Chelsea should make in the future.
Rice formed a formidable partnership with Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips whilst with England at Euro 2020. The pair started every game of the tournament for the Three Lions, helping to England reach the final against Italy.
After a brilliant Euros, Inkersole believes Rice announced himself, telling Football FanCast: “We saw how good he was in the Euros, he was brilliant. There was one game where he might have struggled a little bit, but for the majority he was fantastic and he’s another player that’s just announced himself.
“Not many people will watch West Ham week-in, week out but when they were watching the England games every matchday they were on, people have noticed now how good Declan Rice is and it’s probably going to push his value up even more to be honest.
“So, yeah can’t see it happening to be brutally honest this window, but it’s certainly a move that Chelsea should be making in the future because he’s that good.”
After a brilliant season for West Ham, where he helped his club finish sixth in the Premier League and then continuing his form for England, it’s no surprise to see Rice linked with a move to this summer.
Chelsea were one of the clubs mentioned in reports as having an interest in Rice this summer, but the Telegraph reported last week that the West Ham midfielder hasn’t made any demands to leave the club this summer, despite turning down two contract offers.
