After showing so much promise, Manuel Lanzini's West Ham has slowly but surely faded away.

Following his arrival from Al-Jazira, he has often been captivating on the ball, and there were plenty of occasions when has been awe-inspiring due to his fantastic skills - he was even compared to Andres Iniesta by former teammate Pedro Obiang.

He was handy in front of goal, as well - 21 goals in 129 appearances is nothing to be embarrassed about for an attacking midfielder, whilst he has also managed 20 assists. However, he has been ravaged by injuries ever since he made the switch to London.

The list of issues he has had is lengthy - his hamstring, thigh, ribs, knees and shoulders have all been affected, whilst he has also ruptured his cruciate ligament as well - all in all, he has missed 69 matches due to being forced out of the action.

He has made 19 appearances so far this season, although only 12 of them have been starts, but it seems unlikely that he will be a long-term option for David Moyes.

ExWHUEmployee, a reliable commentator on the Hammers even said: "I think we probably have seen the end of him in terms of a top-quality player. If an offer comes in for him I think we’ll accept it. If it’s within our asking range. However, will an offer come in for him now? I can imagine that his career at West Ham will not be anything like it was."

His departure would be a crying shame, but also a necessity.

He is far from the player he once was - through no real fault of his own, in all fairness - and with a weekly wage of £70,000, he is one of the highest-paid players at the club. Why he was given a new contract last year is perplexing, but that still doesn't mean he can't leave - after all, a new deal at least gives West Ham the chance of making a decent sum were they to let him depart.

With a Transfermarkt value of £18m, there is still the possibility to get in a substantial fee. Whilst his departure would be a shame, it is also a necessity.

Meanwhile, West Ham should go back in for this former Manchester City player.
