West Ham: Benrahama is on his last chance

After a disappointing start to the 2022/23 campaign, Said Benrahma may be on his last chance to impress David Moyes in a West Ham shirt.

The Algerian is likely to start this evening’s Europa Conference League tie against Anderlecht and will be hoping to produce a much better performance than his display in Belgium last week.

The former Brentford man was guilty of missing two big chances during the 1-0 win, with SofaScore awarding him a shocking 6.4/10 rating for his performance – the worst of any player to feature in the game.

So far this season, the winger has contributed just one goal and one assist in the Conference League qualifiers, with his performances in the Premier League earning him a less-than-impressive 6.39 rating from WhoScored.

This ranks him as the 12th-best player in Moyes’ side, so it is easy to see why the Scottish manager continues to leave the £20k-per-week earner on the bench and unless he can improve his performances significantly in the next few months, a January exit could well be on the cards for Benrahma.

Does Benrahma have many chances left?

Since joining from Brentford in 2020, Benrahma has contributed 13 goals and 14 assists in 93 games, as he has sadly failed to live up to his statistics with the Bees in the Championship, where he managed 27 goals and 24 assists across two campaigns in the second tier.

The 27-year-old did enjoy a strong run of form last season, notching 11 goals and six assists in all competitions, including an impressive goal against Genk in the Europa League which caught the attention of Joe Cole.

He said: “Tonight at times he was unplayable. Fantastic, that’s how good he is, as soon as he saw the defender and squared him up, he knew he was in control of the situation. The finish was exquisite.”

There is no doubting Benrahma’s ability but he needs to start producing a lot more if he wants to reclaim his place in the side, starting tonight against Anderlecht.

If he continues to struggle for goal contributions, then it would not be a surprise to see him moved on in January, especially after reports linked him away during the summer window.
