West Ham could boldly ditch Benrahma for Tete

West Ham United could well be plotting a move to bolster their wide options in January, with reports in recent weeks detailing the club’s interest in landing Shakhtar Donetsk speedster Tete.

Despite having bolstered the playing squad substantially over the summer, in which David Moyes welcomed in eight new players, this season that promised much has ultimately underwhelmed thus far for the Scotsman. His side sits just one point from the relegation zone.

When was the last time West Ham had an England player go to a World Cup?

Although questions about his abilities as a manager have since been raised, he will likely remain at the helm for the foreseeable future.

Their apparent interest in Brazilian winger Tete stands as one example of their continued support, with The Sun claiming they will fight with Leicester City to land the trickster valued at £25m.

Should they land this deal, it could mark the bold ditching of Said Benrahma, who despite impressing in flashes has yet to show enough consistency in claret and blue to have his spot nailed down.

With Jarrod Bowen a mainstay in the side too, it would simply have to be the 27-year-old who dropped out.

Added depth out wide was something which was clearly richly sought-after by the east London outfit, who looked to Maxwel Cornet in the summer as their solution.

However, the Ivorian is yet to actually score for the club.

Their entire crop of wingers have underperformed in all honesty, with the Algerian, Bowen, Manuel Lanzini and Pablo Fornals having scored a combined tally of just five in the Premier League.

It is why adding the 22-year-old star to the fold could revitalise the football at the London Stadium.

Especially considering how he has taken to life in France, with five goals and three assists already this season. He is finally showcasing his talents in one of Europe’s top leagues, building upon his 12-goal and seven-assist haul last season.

This proves that he is in fact “a real hurricane”, as dubbed by the official English FC Shakhtar Donetsk Twitter.

What only exacerbates his quality is his underlying statistics, which outline him as nearly as proficient as Martin Terrier, who has drawn interest from a whole host of clubs due to his goal-scoring exploits.

Whilst the Frenchman averages 0.6 goals per 90, he takes nearly 0.5 extra shots per game. That, therefore, makes Tete’s 0.5 goals per game more impressive, as he offers a more lethal touch when he does decide to shoot, via The Analyst.

Also, overperforming on his expected goals tally further outlines him as a clinical attacker.

With West Ham having scored just 12 goals so far this campaign, they are crying out for an injection of quality akin to that aforementioned.

This season Tete has outperformed all of Moyes’ current squad with regard to goalscoring, and this move could see him boldly ditch Benrahma in favour of the on-fire machine.
