Ex-West Ham United Employee, a club insider, believes that Josh Cullen will be given the chance to prove his worth in the summer following a season on loan at Charlton Athletic, per the West Ham Way podcast (March 12th, 56:35).

What’s he said?

Cullen has made 25 appearances for Charlton thus far this season, having also spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan at The Valley.

He has scored once and provided one assist, with the club currently 22nd in the Championship.

Cullen has played just nine times for the Hammers’ senior squad, though his last appearance came in the 2017/18 season, playing five minutes in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

And Ex believes he will be given the opportunity to show his ability to manager David Moyes in the summer.

He said: “Josh Cullen may be given the summer, again, to try and prove himself because he's done well at Charlton this year.

“I think Moyes wants to take a second look at him. There's some interest from other clubs so I think he'll get the summer to try and prove himself.”

Sensible

This is a good move from West Ham if it happens.

Cullen is not a kid anymore; he is 23 and has racked up a total of 141 first-team appearances throughout his career; he has also won two caps for the Republic of Ireland.

Did he really play for us?! No West Ham fan has managed to name all of these obscure Irons signings....

Giving him an opportunity to show his worth in pre-season training, and potentially in a couple of friendlies, cannot do the club any harm.

If he impresses, he could be a money-saving addition to the squad; if he doesn’t, he can be offloaded, and perhaps Charlton would be willing to take him on a permanent basis.

It is something of a no-lose scenario for the Irons.
